Hours later...
About three hours later, I have an additional 2-3 pages. The term "intelligence policy" is making more and more sense. At first, I wondered why it was not data policy or data management and use policy. Work continues...

Working on assignment 2 for week 7
I am making good progress on the required 3-5 page paper on the state and federal legislations, standards, and policies pertaining to data protection and actual data protection measures. It helped to read (and use the references/articles from) my previous papers on ethics and IT and the Sarbanes Oxley Act. Work continues.

Week 7 Assignments
For this course, I have two assignments this week: a post and a paper. I am currently working on the post.
I just started jotting down ideas on data loss and data protection. My Pinterest collections helped - I got some ideas from the Ethics and Disaster Recovery boards. I will now look for papers on data protection measures to add to what I already have. Work continues.

I finished and submitted the week 6 assignment minutes ago. The assignment was challenging. I think it turned out okay. I learned a lot about open access journal articles and websites that provide them.

Next assignment requires a presentation
Today, I spent a lot of time reading/skimming articles for the next assignment. I selected more than the required five articles & then used them to develop an outline. From the outline, I started putting together the presentation.
What is required for the assignment:
Create a PowerPoint presentation that addresses the following:
• Evaluates interactive database systems,
• Explains the process of data mining,
• Explains online analytical process (OLAP),
• Assesses how visual data are extracted from image databases,
• Explains decisions are made using this data,
• Explores the professions that will most likely benefit from the information and knowledge created via visual data mining.
Your audience is a group of IT professionals who have some basic knowledge of databases but are unfamiliar with data mining.
For your research The NCU library has databases and resources such as ProQuest, EBSCOhost, and others where you can download additional peer reviewed journal articles.
Your presentation should demonstrate thoughtful consideration of the ideas and concepts presented in the course and provide new thoughts and insights relating directly to this topic. Incorporate appropriate animations, transitions, and graphics as well as “speaker notes” for each slide.
Support your presentation with the required readings of the course and at least five (5) additional peer reviewed journal articles. In addition to these specified resources, other appropriate scholarly resources may be included. Be sure to include citations for quotations and paraphrases with references in APA format and style.
Length: 12-15 slides (with a separate reference slide).
Notes: 50-100 words for each slide.

Working on the week 3 assignment
After reading the requirements for the week 3 assignment as well as the syllabus, I wasn't sure how I would proceed. The assignment touches on the decisions for individual systems as well as organization-wide decisions (data architecture etc.). I thought of using systems that collect market data as examples. There may be a central system/application that collects the data, but market data is used by many applications and users. I am currently searching for articles on the topic. The articles will help me decide how to proceed. This is interesting!

Interviews for next assignment
Today, I spent a few hours developing questions for database end-users for my next assignment. It is very interesting! I am now ready to send the questions off to two users.
What is required:
Interview two experienced and knowledgeable database end users and summarize and evaluate their responses about the knowledge and skills needed to do the following:
manage, access, query the databases, and manipulate data.

I am working on the second activity/assignment - a PowerPoint presentation "arguing if and why the knowledge level and skill sets of information technology (IT) and IS professionals, such as database administrators (DBAs), should be compatible with researchers and archivist analysts." The assignment requires the use of at least 6 peer-reviewed journal articles as references. I am searching for articles now...
